As the official braai partner of the SA Rugby Union and the Springboks, Freddy Hirsch is pleased to announce its further involvement and support of the game by unveiling iconic rugby star Jean de Villiers as the new Oom Freddy’s Legacy brand ambassador.

As is the case in its wider association with SARU and the Springboks, Oom Freddy’s Legacy is synonymous with braaiing, which makes this deal with the Bok legend another partnership of obvious choice.

Global star

De Villiers, who turned out in 109 Tests for South Africa between 2002 and 2015, is one of the best players the country has ever produced.

After making his international breakthrough for the SA schools team in 1999, he went on to represent the SA U-19 and U-21 squads before making his Springbok debut. Later in his career he helped the Boks secure titles at the 2007 World Cup, as well as the popular Tri-Nations series.

Though he spent most of his career with Western Province and the Stormers, he also turned out for Irish side Munster and English team Leicester Tigers, showcasing his class across the world.

“As a proud South African, I enjoy braaiing, and Oom Freddy’s Legacy provides the flavours that we have all come to enjoy while socialising with our families and friends,” said De Villiers.

“I look forward to this mutually beneficial partnership with Freddy Hirsch, as we work together to promote South African rugby as part of our nation’s rich culture.”

Perfect partnership

During his 17-year top-flight career, De Villiers established himself as a household name, and his partnership with Freddy Hirsch is fitting, with the spice company having cemented itself among the country’s best known brands.

Freddy Hirsch’s involvement in rugby already extends to the youth and club level, providing support in all areas of the game around the country.

The company’s latest decision to bring De Villiers on board as a brand ambassador for the Oom Freddy’s Legacy range is another way in which Freddy Hirsch has shown its commitment to South African rugby.

“Jean de Villiers is a legend of the sport and we are pleased to have him on board as our brand ambassador as we continue to expand our support of South African rugby,” said Freddy Hirsch marketing manager Clive Moore.

“We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Jean, as the Springboks and SA rugby continue to go from strength to strength.”
